The generosity from quilters all over the US and many countries has been overwhelming. We were receiving 20 to 30 boxes a day of fabric donations through November. Yes, we have over a thousand boxes to open and sort through. Due to the holidays, we only started to open the boxes last week. As we open each one, the name of the sender is recorded so that eventually we will be able to send notes of gratitude to all who have donated so generously (as long as we have a legible return address).

The members of our guild whose homes burned down have complete access to any amounts of fabric they want from the numerous donations. Many of them are still living with family members or in small temporary apartments where having a sewing station is not an option. This will be a very long process of healing and rebuilding. Fortunately we have plenty of storage available, so as people get their lives back together, they will be able to rebuild their stash.

One of our members who lost her home was our Community Quilts Chairperson. She used to organize weekly meetings at her house to make quilts for those in need. She had about 300 yards of fabric that was lost. Thanks to the kindness of so many quilters, we have enough fabric to do what we do best; make quilts for the community.

Santa Rosa also has a night guild, the Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County. Several of their members lost their homes as well, so we are able to “pay it forward” with our fabric abundance.

To those of you who are wondering when or if you will be acknowledged for your donation, we sincerely apologize for the delay in sending out our thank you notes. So many of you have taken the time and expense to send fabric and love our way, it is taking us quite a while to process it all. The quilting world is amazing and it is times like these that we are so proud to be a part of this community.

Our Guild is dedicated to preserving this country's quilting heritage through the education and enhancement of quilt-making skills. Our members have a love of quilting and all things quilt-related and welcome those who have similar interests. Since 1976 has increased from a small group of founding members to 280 and still growing!

The Santa Rosa Quilt Guild creates an opportunity quilt every year which is raffled to generate operating funds that support the guild and its community outreach. Tickets are available during guild meetings and at various functions throughout the year, such as the Sonoma County Fair and the Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County Wine Country Quilt Show.
