Hello Santa Rosa Quilt Guild,
For the year 2009, the Block of the Month theme is:
“Our Neighborhood”
Yes, it does take a village. We are building a community, one ‘block’ at a time. Our goal: ‘blanket’ the neighborhood with goodwill and toasty coziness. This year’s B.O.M. is in the schoolhouse format. There will be six houses, three civic buildings, and three of flora/fauna. Some construction will be pieced, some appliqué. To embellish* or not to embellish is your choice.
As always, we encourage the building of three blocks at a time. One for community quilts, one for the monthly drawing, and one for you. For the price of a scrap bag, this is home ownership we can all afford so please get involved.
The new block of the month will be introduced at the first meeting of each month. The drawing takes place at the second meeting of the subsequent month. For example, January’s block of the month was introduced at the first meeting in January but the drawing for January’s B.O.M. will occur at the second meeting in February.
Block of the Month Committee members:

Rhonda Denny
(You’ll see at least one of us at any given meeting…)
* - For safety, please keep Community Quilt embellishments to a minimum.
Additional instructions for The Old Red Barn pattern

The Old Red Barn link will take you to The Quilters Cache website to download the pattern and templates. This is a 10" paper pieced block. After sewing the barn together, add 2 ½ inch background strips to 3 sides and one 2 ½ inch ground strip to the bottom. Press and trim the block to 12 ½ inches. If you would like to save a few steps, the window in the barn may be omitted by just using a whole piece of fabric for the barn
