Hello Santa Rosa Quilt Guild!

Welcome to Block of the Month, 2010.
One early autumn morning Barbara Cortelyou, Joyce Wood, Linda Ziemer, and I had a meeting about the Block of the Month 2010. The meeting was just to touch base, maybe select a theme. We talked about our observations in relation to the current year’s program, what we thought worked and didn’t work along with our expectations for the coming year. It was a lovely meeting but about to end with a theme yet to appear. I asked the ladies, “How do you feel about black? I love it!” The response was a resounding “Yes” to black at which point the Amish idea was born.
Over the next few months we chose our blocks and colors and delegated responsibilities (while sipping tea and snacking on yum-yums). Once the blocks were made, we came together to audition our finest works in an appropriate order on a design board. It must have looked a bit comical. We were tripping over each other in my postage-stamp-sized living room with the oversized furniture, the design board teetering precariously against our traditional Christmas Ficus. Our dear Barbara C. took the blocks home to put the top together. (She made us look fabulous!) Joyce W. brought in a dark gray cotton batting, Linda Z contributed a back, and I the binding. Now we just need to find someone who quilts.
Know anybody?
Upon completion - and a few consults - we learned that our resulting top was almost Amish. So, whether you are a purist from the old country or a free spirit in sunny CA, please enjoy the journey from Pennsylvania to California as we go “Almost Amish”.
