2026-2027-Opportunity Quilt by Shelly Bowers
Name of Quilt: Xochitl's Garden Drawing inspiration from the geometric motifs of traditional Aztec blankets, Shelley Bowers of the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild designed and machine-pieced this 61” x 74” quilt. The work features intricate custom machine quilting by Margaret Davids of Cloverdale Quilting, whose artistry adds significant depth and textural detail. To maintain the aesthetic integrity of a woven textile, the quilt was finished with a facing technique; this invisible binding creates a seamless edge, further evoking the spirit of the original inspiration. The name of the quilt, Xochitl (pronounced SOH-cheel), is the Aztec word for "flower," fitting for the central radiating motif. Xochitl is often used as a feminine given name representing beauty and life. |
